Because why not.

I randomly got the idea for a shield with a bow in it so that you could easily switch between using a sword and a bow and still remain protected. I idea originated when I was trying to figure out a way to make the Snatch Arrow feat more viable for a Fighter.

Looks interesting. Would be useable by the most skilled of warriors as usually you train exclusively with one weapon to become the best with it...

clever :3, could use additional handguard.
if only this was in skyrim we'll eliminate the excessive amount of arrow in the knee joke

If the shield had a mechanism that allowed you to straighten and lock your shield arm, the design would be much more workable. Of course it would be an exotic shield with at least one feat to use it best. Maybe another class of fighter could spawn from this.

Well this did start as a random idea I got during lunch while talking about DnD. I might refine it to make it more... practical? I'm sure I can talk to someone about trying to come up with stats for it as well. I might just draw up a v2 for this at some point. It might be hard to come up with mechanisms that work within DnD logic though.

Not really. Just have a hinge joint at the hand grip and those who aren't proficient have a percent chance that something nasty happens to them. Like loss of shield AC and a move action to reset or something. It's really workable.

Nice... looks like fun trying to wrestle the torque with one hand tho :D

Well it is meant for a fighter in D&D, so hopefully they should have the strength for it.
